I'm sharing this with everyone here as an example of mistakes you SHOULDN'T make when crafting your resume.
Find a list of everything that was wrong with my resume and solutions for it👇🏻
🚫 Having more than one page in my resume despite being a fresher. 🛠 Your resume shouldn't be longer than 1 page; industry experts say to use a page for every ten years of experience.
🚫 A lengthy summary that did not align with my work experience. 🛠 Your summary should cover your experience + what job you're seeking + what you bring to the table.
🚫 Did not use an ATS-compliant template. 🛠 Use resume templates that are ATS-compliant and build your resume using LaTeX.
🚫 Too many bullet points for each work experience. 🛠 Only add relevant points and optimize them to include keywords from the job description to justify your fit for the role.
🚫 Lack of relevant keywords. 🛠 Optimize your resume to align it with the job description. Every section of your resume should have relevant keywords to show you have everything the company is looking for.
🚫 Contains Information like nationality and gender, missing LinkedIn address. 🛠 Information like nationality, gender, complete residential address, etc., are not required on the resume. Also, NEVER forget to add your LinkedIn profile address.
Reasons to work on your resume:
- Prepares you for the interview. Most employers will use your resume as a guideline when they interview you. Therefore, they will ask you to explain in detail many of the statements you have made in your resume.
- Organizes you. You are preparing a resume that forces you to assess your skills. This, in turn, will help you evaluate the many employment options open to you. It will also help you plan an effective job search campaign.
- Gives you a sense of security. It's a good idea to always have an updated resume on hand. You never know when you will want to seek a better job or just a change. Also, in case you unexpectedly lose your job, it is wise to have your resume updated and ready.
- Can be used as a calling card. It's there when you want to conduct informational interviews to test potential opportunities.
